DEAERATORS
Deaerators are mechanical devices that remove dissolved gases from boiler feedwater. Deaeration protects the steam system from the effects of corrosive gases. It accomplishes this by reducing the concentration of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide to a level where corrosion is minimized. A dissolved oxygen level of 5 parts per billion (ppb) or lower is needed to prevent corrosion in most high-pressure boilers. While oxygen concentrations of up to 43 ppb may be tolerated in low-pressure boilers, equipment life is extended at little or no cost by limiting the oxygen concentration to 5 ppb. Dissolved carbon dioxide is essentially completely removed by the deaerator.
The spray-scrubber design provides for removal of all dissolved oxygen and other non-condensibles in excess of .005 cc/liter and heats the water to near steam temperature.
The counter flow tray design provides removal of all dissolved oxygen in excess of .005 cc/liter from 5% to 100% of the deaerator capacity.
Multiple configurations are available from vertical single tank vessels, standard “tank car” vessels or separate dual parallel horizontal vessels.
Internal components in contact with undeaerated water including the spray nozzles, spiral nozzles and vent condenser are constructed of corrosion resistant stainless steel.

Atmospheric Boiler Feed Systems
A packaged feed system is used when conditions do not warrant the cost of a deaerator. The feed system preheats the boiler feedwater, reducing the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide entering the boiler. This system will require more chemicals than a deaerator.
Blowdown Equipment
When a boiler is generating steam, the feedwater continuously carries dissolved mineral matter into the unit. To prevent an excessive accumulation of dissolved and undissolved solids which interfere with proper boiler operation, a blowdown program should be established. Blowdown separators take water from the boiler during blowdown and reduce it to atmospheric pressure for disposal.
Custom Fabrication
Power Plant Equipment’s custom fabrication capabilities include the design, fabrication, piping, wiring, painting and testing of deaerator systems, feedwater tanks, blowdown equipment and mechanical equipment skid packages. We can provide packaged systems with pumps, heat exchangers, boilers and other miscellaneous equipment for cost effective, convenient installations.
